AVLS Launches DVT Awareness Month Social Media Campaign
San Leandro, CA – March 1, 2016 – The American Vein & Lymphatic Society (AVLS) kicks off Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month with a social media campaign developed to educate the general public and medical practitioners about the risks of DVT and other vein disorders. The campaign will use informative videos, podcasts, articles and the AVLS Online Vein Self-Assessment tool to encourage awareness of vein health, as well as providing a resource for finding a local physician.
Along with important information and news about DVT, the AVLS will be sharing member screening locations within the U.S. through the AVLS’s official public awareness pages on Facebook and Twitter all month long. AVLS members and the public are encouraged to follow the AVLS social media pages, as well as the hashtag #HealthyVeins for more information on DVT and general vein care. The AVLS social media pages can be accessed from the links below:

DVT is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, most commonly in the legs, causing partial or complete blockage of circulation. DVT affects up to 600,000 Americans each year, leading to between 60,000-100,000 yearly deaths due to complications. Vein care practitioners, such as those represented by the AVLS, are uniquely qualified to assess patients for signs of DVT and determine their risks for vein disease.
