The American Vein & Lymphatic Society is entering a new chapter.
Over the past year, AVLS leadership, staff, committee members, and volunteers have worked together to address significant organizational challenges and establish a stronger foundation for the future. While the journey has not been easy, it has provided an opportunity to carefully evaluate every aspect of our organization and implement meaningful improvements.
Our focus is straightforward: earning and maintaining member confidence through transparency, accountability, communication, and responsible stewardship of Society resources.
We recognize that confidence is earned through actions, not promises. Members deserve to understand not only what has changed, but how those changes will be measured and communicated moving forward.
To support these commitments, AVLS has implemented comprehensive financial controls and established an independent Finance Committee. Financial information will be regularly shared with members, annual internal and external audits will be conducted, and governing documents are being updated to strengthen accountability and oversight throughout the organization. Ultimately, our goal is ensure you – the individual healthcare professional - are comfortable investing in your Society, the AVLS.
By the end of 2026, members will have access to:
Most importantly, members will be able to follow our progress for themselves.
Transparency is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing commitment and an essential part of how AVLS will move forward.
In June 2025, AVLS entered a Chapter 11 restructuring process to address legacy contractual obligations and operational debt. Through that process, the Society resolved approximately $2.7 million in debt and established a path forward supported by private investors committed to the future of AVLS.
Leadership conducted an extensive review of the factors that contributed to these challenges and developed a comprehensive plan to strengthen the Society's operations, governance, financial oversight, and long-term sustainability.
For members interested in learning more, detailed information regarding the restructuring process, supporting documents, financial reports, governance updates, and related resources can be found in our Transparency Center.
Our focus for 2026 is restoring confidence, strengthening member engagement, and continuing to build the leading professional society dedicated to advancing venous and lymphatic care.
The history of AVLS demonstrates what can be accomplished when passionate professionals work together to improve patient care, advance education, support research, and advocate for our specialty. That mission remains unchanged.
The future of AVLS will be shaped not only by its leadership, but by the engagement, expertise, and ideas of its members.
We invite you to join us as we build the next chapter together.
